“Salvation and Desire” by Michele Bledsoe
“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”
Gospel of Thomas
I love to paint.
I need to paint..
but sometimes life intervenes
and pulls me from my easel.
I feel unbalanced.
Irritable.
Something is off.
I am suffering from art deprivation..
Like some kind of
horrible sleep deficiency..
there is an almost physical
longing to dream.
As artists, it is necessary to make time
to create..
our lives depend on it.
But, these creations should come freely, they shouldn’t be forced out of you, and you shouldn’t feel less productive if you’re not painting anything, or making anything…

Yes, art should come freely. Always.

Oh I couldn’t agree more! Sometimes I think I should feel guilty or selfish as I avoid all those other little things I am “supposed” to do in a day….but not really.

Does a bird feel guilty for flying? Or a fish for swimming? I think you have the right attitude 🙂

I agree. My mind paints even when I cannot do so otherwise. Painting is complex. Sometimes, it flows. Other times, there is a struggle to get it out. We need to create. Writers need to write. Musicians need to make music. Chefs need to cook. Artists need to paint or draw.

Oh my goodness, YES! I know I feel super-irritable when all my energies are simply focusing on “survival” and maintaining…
.. and constantly sacrificing to help others with their needs/wants/etc!
It’s annoying.
There needs to be some kind of BALANCE!!!! Ugh.
One’s inner need for creativity is NOT something to ignore! It can manifest in something much more destructive if ignored and pushed to the side for too long.
I know this.
Thanks Michele!
